Waddani Presidential Candidate in Somaliland Affirms Commitment to Scheduled Elections Amidst Constitutional Contention

Amidst a constitutional dispute arising from President Bihi’s decision to return the approved electoral law to the House of Elders, Abdirahman Irro, the Presidential candidate of the Waddani party, has called on his supporters to prepare for the upcoming elections anticipated to be held in November of this year.

Irro, humorously remarked on the impact of the impending elections on President Bihi, and assured that his Waddani party remains steadfast in its commitment to participating in a peaceful electoral process. He categorically denied any intention to seek power through incitement of violence.

Expressing regret over the setbacks faced by the Somaliland government in recent years, Irro cited the loss of control over significant towns and the border shifted to Oog town. He pledged to address these challenges by fostering unity among the people if elected in the forthcoming elections.

This statement follows President Bihi’s decision to return the approved electoral laws to the House of Elders in response to a request from the Speaker of the House of Elders. The move has been criticized by the House of Representatives, which deems it a breach of the constitution, urging the President to either approve or reject the electoral laws within a 21-day period.
