UNICEF Reports Airstrike Close to Gaza Hospital Amidst Israel’s Renewed Offensive
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) spokesman, James Elder, has reported that an airstrike landed approximately 50 meters away from the largest still-functioning hospital in Gaza. This is as Israel resumes war on Gaza after the pause.
In a video posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), Elder emphasized the hospital’s limited capacity, stating, that the hospital cannot take any more children with the wounds of war.
He highlighted the dire situation, mentioning burns, shrapnel injuries, and broken bones suffered by children.
Elder expressed concern over the reduced capacity in hospitals over the past seven weeks and called for action, stating that inaction from those with influence is allowing the killing of children.
In his first public statement following the expiration of the Ceasefire earlier today, Israel’s national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, said there is the need for a robust Israeli military response.
He called for returning to Gaza with full force, destroying Hamas, and reoccupying the Strip without compromises or deals.
While the ceasefire has expired, and fighting resumed in Gaza on Friday, negotiations facilitated by mediators Qatar and Egypt with Israel and Hamas are still ongoing.
Israel has dropped leaflets into parts of southern Gaza, including Khan Younis, warning residents to leave, designating the city as a “dangerous battle zone.”
The focus of the Israeli response to Hamas terror attacks has mainly been in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.
