Sudan dismisses Chadian diplomats in fresh diplomatic face-off

Tension is growing between Sudan and Chad as the Sudanese authority called for the expulsion of the Chadian envoys within 72 hours. The move follows a similar step by Chad. Sudan had accused Chad of supporting RSF in the ongoing war in Sudan, a claim that Chad has denied…

Sudan has ordered three Chadian diplomats to leave the country within 72 hours, declaring them “persona non grata” in retaliation for a similar move by Chad.

The move by Sudan comes several hours after Chad also declared four Sudanese diplomats at the Sudanese embassy in N’Djamena, the capital, unwelcome, according to the state news agency.

The Sudanese officials had accused Chad’s government of interfering in the raging conflict in Khartoum by supporting the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF). A claim that the Chadian government has denied.

Chad had earlier said the envoys were declared unwelcome due to what it called “grave statements” by Sudanese officials accusing it of interfering in the conflict in Sudan.

There have been growing tensions between the Sudanese military junta and its counterpart in Chad.

A top Sudanese official had accused the United Arab Emirates of supplying the rival RSF with weapons alleging that the Arab country had funnelled unspecified supplies to the RSF through Uganda, the Central African Republic (CAR) and Chad.

Uganda’s state minister for foreign affairs, rejected Sudan’s claims and described them as “absolute rubbish.”
