Somaliland Rebuffs Unification talks with Somalia

The government of Somaliland has firmly rejected any prospect of unification talks with Somalia. In an official statement released by the Somaliland Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was emphasized that the nation has endured significant hardships stemming from past unsuccessful attempts at unity.

The statement unequivocally asserts the position of the Somaliland Government, which maintains that any future dialogue between Somaliland and Somalia will be focused on forging separate paths forward, rather than exploring the possibility of unification.

This announcement came in response to earlier remarks made by the President of Uganda, who expressed his willingness to serve as a “peace facilitator” between the two parties and encouraged unity.

In a post on a social media platform following a meeting with a representative from Somaliland, the Ugandan President urged them to embrace politics centered on their shared interests, asserting that such considerations should take precedence over politics rooted in identity.
