The Somaliland mediation committee over the protracted election disputes between the ruling party and opposition parties, has reached their decision concerning the impending elections.
Having garnered the trust and cooperation of all major political parties involved, the committee has put forth a recommendation to combine the Presidential and political association elections. This proposal is aimed at alleviating the current strained circumstances and fostering a more harmonious electoral process.
During a formal press briefing, the committee additionally advocated for the synchronization of all electoral events to be conducted concurrently in the year 2024. This alternative course of action, they argue, would circumvent the challenges posed by the original plan of conducting two separate elections within a year.
Following the announcement, a diverse range of political associations have issued varying responses. While some have exhibited immediate reservations, others have extended their support for the committee’s suggestion.
However, a comparable resolution was put forth by a voluntary mediation committee in the preceding year. Despite securing the endorsement of the house of representatives, this initiative ultimately encountered obstacles in the house of elders.
