The President articulated his appreciation during a meeting with His Excellency Ibrahim Mete Yagli, the Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, held in the central town of Dhusamareb. Their discussions primarily centered on the enhancement of bilateral relations between the two nations, current developments pertaining to security, and a range of matters of mutual concern, as reported by Somalia’s Presidency.
This gathering transpired against the backdrop of Mogadishu’s concerted efforts to advocate for the removal of the arms embargo on Somalia, an imposition instituted by the United Nations Security Council in early 1992, in the aftermath of Somalia’s military regime’s collapse.
Somalia and Turkey have cultivated a robust triad of economic, diplomatic, and military cooperation, the roots of which have deepened since the auspicious visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Somalia in 2011.
