Somalia Security forces apprehend a car filled with explosives in Gedo region
According to regional authorities, Somalia security forces seized a car filled with explosive devices following a security operation in the Dolow district of the Gedo region. Regional officials stated that security forces received a tip-off about the explosives-rigged vehicle, which enabled them to thwart the group’s planned attack.
The Dolow district commissioner, Mohamed Hussein Abdi, commended the security forces for their diligence and vigilance in bolstering overall security in the district as a massive anti-al Shabab operation is expected to begin in Jubbaland soon.
However, this incident occurred just a day after security forces discovered a landmine the group had planted on the main road in the Dhobley district of the Gedo region. In recent months, the Somalia government has intensified its military campaign against al-Shabaab in central and Southern Somalia.
The regional President Ahmed Madoobe repeatedly pledged to intensify his counterterrorism efforts against Alshabab and will soon remove the remaining areas of his territory from Alshabab’s grip.
