Somalia Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre engaged in a meeting with United States Congresswoman Ilhan Omar within the city of New York. The agenda of their discussion encompassed multifaceted aspects of Somalia’s political, security, economic, and social landscapes as reported by the office of the Prime minister.
During their meeting, Prime Minister Barre provided the Somali-American Congresswoman Ilhan Omar with a comprehensive overview of the notable achievements achieved by the National Army and local clan militias in their concerted efforts against the al-Shabab group within Somalia. Furthermore, the two officials deliberated on potential avenues through which the United States government could enhance its support for the government of Somalia.
Prime Minister Barre’s visit to New York coincided with his participation in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Addressing the SDG Summit of 2023, PM Barre underscored Somalia’s unwavering commitment to bolstering investments in education, with the overarching objectives of diminishing illiteracy rates, expanding access to quality education, and promoting technical and vocational training.
The Somalia armed forces, in collaboration with local entities and international allies, claimed to have successfully liberated numerous significant urban centers and rural communities since President Hassan Sheikh initiated a comprehensive campaign against al-Shabab.
