In a continued commitment to aiding victims affected by the Israel-Palestine conflict,, the Singapore Government has taken swift action to provide second tranche of aid to Gaza.
The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) deployed a Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft from Changi Air Base (East) to Egypt on 30 November 2023, to deliver humanitarian assistance package for civilians in Gaza.
The aid package, drawn from the contributions of more than S$7 million in cash and in-kind donations from the Ministry of Health (MOH), the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) includes medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, blankets, sanitation items, water filters, and food.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan and Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr. Zaqy Mohamad were present at Changi Air Base (East) to bid farewell to the RSAF crew.
Upon arrival in Egypt, Singapore’s Ambassador to Egypt, Dominic Goh, will oversee the handover of the humanitarian package to the Egyptian Red Crescent.
Minister Balakrishnan expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from Singaporeans and highlighted the severity of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
SMS Zaqy emphasized the close collaboration between the Singapore Government, NGOs, and international partners, acknowledging the complexity of the situation on the ground.
Ms. Rebekah Lim, the Singapore Red Cross’ Head of Global Engagement, stressed the importance of collaboration with authorities and humanitarian partners in delivering relief assistance.
Singapore reaffirms its commitment to working closely with humanitarian partners and urges all parties to facilitate the immediate, safe, and unhindered provision of humanitarian assistance to affected civilians throughout Gaza.
