The leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, on Monday urged the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) to acknowledge defeat and emphasized the need for constructive dialogue.
Speaking from the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, Dagalo asserted that the RSF does not seek to replace the army but is dedicated to fostering a political process that paves the way for a peaceful and just Sudan.
The RSF leader called upon civilian forces to take proactive steps towards initiating a dialogue to bring an end to the prolonged conflict and establish a stable government.
This call for dialogue comes amidst growing calls for a resolution to the ongoing conflict in Sudan, which has been ongoing for over eight months between the former allies and has resulted in thousands of casualties and the displacement of millions.
On the widespread violations reported in Al-Gezira State in December 2023 after the RSF assumed control, Dagalo distanced the RSF from the incidents, attributing them to armed elements not affiliated with his forces.
Meanwhile, Sudan’s military ruler, General Abdelfattah Al-Burhan, has issued a warning to countries hosting RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo as “partners in crime” in the killing of Sudanese people.
He gave the warning while delivering a speech at the 68th anniversary of Sudan’s independence.
Al-Burhan declared that any nation harboring a group hostile to the state and rejecting the current government is deemed an enemy of the state.
He outlined conditions for a ceasefire to include the RSF vacating Al-Gezira State and other regions in Sudan and demanded the return of all looted property, including citizens’ and government assets, along with the evacuation of citizens’ homes and government buildings.
The Sudanese leader emphasized that any ceasefire lacking these conditions would be deemed unacceptable to the Sudanese people.
