President Kiir Returns to Juba After Attending Saudi-Africa Summit.

President Salva Kiir has returned to Juba from Saudi Arabia, where he participated in a two-day Saudi-Africa Summit.

During his time in Riyadh, President Kiir engaged in crucial discussions with several African leaders, focusing on addressing issues related to the Sudan crisis.

President Kiir also held sideline meetings with regional leaders from neighboring countries to discuss ways to strengthen South Sudan’s bilateral relations and enhance diplomatic cooperation with nations in the region.

A statement released by the Presidential Press Unit stated that the summit concluded with a consensus for increased cooperation in the areas of trade and industry and commitment to the opening of a new alliance with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

While President Kiir was away, Juba experienced a notable deployment of security personnel, sparking speculations on social media about a potential mutiny within the country’s military.

Responding to these claims, Maj Gen. Lul Ruai, spokesperson of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), reassured the public that the security situation in Juba City remained normal.

Gen. Ruai clarified that the increased security measures were implemented as a proactive response to address the rising issue of “motorcycle” thefts in the city.

He added that the SSPDF scaled up surveillance efforts to ensure the safety and security of the capital, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining order and addressing local challenges.
