Nigerian President honors 110 youth with employment, Scholarships, cash award
About 110 former corps members in Nigeria have benefited from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) presidential honors award ceremony.
At the event, President Muhammadu Buhari awarded automatic employment to the 110 former corps members in the Federal Civil Service and scholarships for the pursuit of post-graduate studies up to the doctoral level in any university in Nigeria.
The president, who made this known at the virtual 2018 to 2019 President’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) honors award ceremony held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, also announced cash rewards for the ex- corps members.
He directed the relevant government agencies to ensure timely implementation of all the incentives for the award recipients.
The president however appealed to the honorees to sustain the patriotic zeal that earned them the award.
He also urged Nigerian youth to avoid all economic and social vices that are contrary to the wellbeing and progress of the country, admonishing them to adopt a collective approach, premised on sound values to build a great nation.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a program set up by the Nigerian government to involve Nigerian graduates a bid to reconstruct, reconcile and rebuild the country after the Nigerian Civil war.
There is no military conscription in Nigeria, but since 1973 graduates of universities and later polytechnics have been required to take part in the National Youth Service Corps program for a year.
