President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria on Tuesday condemned the brutal attacks in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi local government areas, LGAs, of Plateau State, where over 115 persons were killed by armed bandits.
It was a black holiday in the north central state after gunmen on Christmas Eve attacked the local councils, killed at least 115 villagers and burnt down 17 communities.
While commenting on the attack in a statement by his spokesperson, Tinubu directed security agencies to immediately move in to apprehend the culprits.
The President also directed the immediate mobilisation of relief resources for surviving victims of the attacks as well as medical treatment for the wounded.
While condoling with the government and the people of Plateau, the President assured Nigerians that “the envoys of death, pain, and sorrow would not escape justice.”
Amnesty International had earlier faulted the government, saying “the Nigerian authorities have been failing to end frequent deadly attacks on rural communities of Plateau state,” in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
Clashes between farmers and herders are frequent in the state largely caused by competition for scarce resources, rapid population growth and climate pressures.
