The Nigeria Labour Congress has threatened to paralysed the economy of the West African country starting with a two-day warning strike next week.

The warning strike will take place on Tuesday, September 5, and Wednesday, September 6.
The decision to go on strike was made at the conclusion of the National Executive Council meeting
The labour union, in a communique jointly signed by its national president, Joe Ajaero and Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, said it decided to take the decision following the failure of the Nigerian government to commence talks and engage stakeholders on efforts to cushion the effects of the removal of subsidy petrol on the masses.

On the resolutions it took, the NLC NEC resolved to embark on a total and indefinite shutdown of the nation within 14 working days until steps are taken by the government to address the excruciating mass suffering and impoverishment being experienced around the country.

Recall that in the first week of August, the labour union in Nigeria held a protest on what it described as the anti-people policies of the current administration.

The protest was due to a seven-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government demanding the immediate reversal of all anti-poor policies of the federal government.

The policies include the recent hike in fuel price, increase in public school fees, the release of the eight months withheld salary of university lecturers and workers.
Also, the union demanded an upward review of the minimum wage.
