Military Operations Result in the Elimination of 80 al-Shabab Militants in Central Somalia
At least 80 al-Shabab fighters were killed in military operations in central Somalia over the last 48 hours, according to Brigadier General Dayah Abdi Abdulle, the country’s land forces commander. The operations were concentrated in Aad and Barag Sheikh Ismail, situated within the Harardhere district of the Mudug region.
Supported by Galmudug forces and local troops, the military effort resulted in the liberation of several villages in Mudug, a significant accomplishment affirmed by security agencies.
Brigadier General Dayah underscored that these operations form a crucial component of the ongoing initiatives in Mudug, within the Hirshabelle state, and the southern state of Jubaland, aimed at liberating territories from the influence of al-Shabab.
Somalia, grappling with persistent insecurity, faces primary threats from both al-Shabaab and Daesh/ISIS groups. Since 2007, al-Shabab has persistently launched attacks against the government with the objective of overthrowing it and establishing an Islamic state based on their interpretation of Sharia.
