Kenya Red Cross Issues stern warning against flash floods in Nairobi
Amidst the relentless downpour engulfing Nairobi, the Kenya Red Cross has issued crucial safety guidelines urging residents to remain vigilant against the looming threat of flash floods.
With the city experiencing incessant rains across all 17 sub-counties, the humanitarian organization underscores the importance of proactive measures to safeguard lives and property.
“Rains pounding various parts of Nairobi County necessitate heightened awareness and preparedness to mitigate potential flooding hazards,” the Red Cross stated on X.
The organization emphasized the urgency for Kenyans to be vigilant and evacuate promptly upon sensing any imminent danger of flooding.
The Red Cross advisory warns against both walking and driving through floodwaters, highlighting the perilous risks posed by even minimal water depths.
Residents are urged to remain informed through designated TV and radio stations to prevent misinformation and ensure timely updates on flooding situations.
In the event of a flooded residence, the Red Cross advises individuals to prioritize safety by switching off electricity from the main switch to mitigate the risk of electrocution.
The recent deluge has inundated various parts of the city, including sections of the Central Business District, Westlands, and Eastleigh, among others.
Social media platforms have been flooded with photos and videos depicting the challenges faced by commuters, motorists, and pedestrians navigating through inundated streets and walkways.
