Ethiopia’s Refugees & Returnees Service (RRS), UN Migration (IOM) Collaborate to Expedite Exit Permits for Refugees
In a significant step towards addressing the pressing refugee issues in Ethiopia, the Refugees & Returnees Service of Ethiopia (RRS) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), also known as the UN Migration, have forged a partnership to enhance capacity and streamline the issuance of exit permits for refugees.
A collaborative meeting convened between RRS Director General Teyiba Hassen and Abibatou Wane-Fall, the Chief of Mission to Ethiopia at IOM, marked a pivotal moment of commitment to cooperation on refugee-related matters in Ethiopia.
One of the key outcomes of this meeting is the agreement to work closely on capacity-building initiatives aimed at expediting the process of issuing travel documents and exit permits for refugees.
This strategic move seeks to simplify administrative procedures and ensure a more seamless transition for individuals seeking safety and refuge beyond Ethiopia’s borders.
Both parties also recognized the critical importance of fostering mutual understanding and cooperation between RRS and IOM to effectively address the increasing number of asylum seekers originating from the Laascaanood district and Sudan.
DG Teyiba Hassen expressed her gratitude to IOM for its efforts in facilitating resettlement opportunities in third countries for refugees.
