Egypt has issued a warning to suspend its peace treaty with Israel if civilians from Gaza are evacuated to Egypt. The threat was conveyed through a series of messages from senior Egyptian officials to their Israeli counterparts.
Egypt emphasized that any spillover of Palestinian refugees from Gaza to Sinai would jeopardize the longstanding peace agreement between the two nations.
The warnings were prompted by concerns that the Israeli army’s planned attack on Rafah might force Palestinians to move to Sinai.
Israeli Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, recently declared that Israel would “complete the mission” in Khan Younis and “continue to Rafah” at the Egyptian border.
Sources revealed that Egypt considers the crossing of even a single Palestinian refugee or even one Egyptian refugee as a red line, declaring that such an event would nullify the peace agreement.
