A fresh round of negotiations on securing a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is set to commence in Cairo on Thursday. The negotiation put together by Egyptian and Qatari mediators is to restore peace to the Gaza Strip and facilitate the release of Palestinian prisoners and Israeli detainees.
Egypt, as the host nation, has called upon all involved parties to exhibit the requisite flexibility and commitment to achieving tranquility in the war-torn region.
on Tuesday, Egypt received the response of the Hamas to the proposed truce framework between the Palestinian resistance in the besieged Gaza Strip and the Israeli occupation.
Hamas had put forth a new ceasefire proposal calling for a six-week cessation of hostilities, a hostage-prisoner exchange and increased humanitarian aid for Gaza, while also demanding the involvement of Qatar, Egypt, the United States, Turkey, Russia, and the United Nations as guarantors for the implementation of the agreement .
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu rebuffed Hamas’s proposed terms for a ceasefire, describing them as “bizarre” which indicated a lack of progress in negotiations.
Netanyahu asserted that the only viable resolution to the conflict lies in achieving a definitive victory, and emphasized Israel’s preparedness for potential military action in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, where displaced Palestinians seek refuge from the ongoing violence.
Responding to Netanyahu’s stance, senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri affirmed the organization’s preparedness to deal with all potential outcomes .
