Egypt Begins Construction of Fourth Power Unit at The El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant

Presisent AbdulFattah el-Sisi of Egypt has identified that integrating nuclear power into Egypt’s energy balance is vital to meeting the specific demands essential for implementing economic and social development plans.

President. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi stated this when he, alongside his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin took part in the foundation laying ceremony for the construction of the fourth power unit of the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Egypt via a video link.

He emphasized that the expansion of nuclear power will not only address immediate energy needs but will also facilitate the incorporation of new and renewable energy sources, which aligns with Egypt’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its efforts to combat climate change.

Russian President, Vladimir Putin, while highlighting the impact of the joint project on the Egyptian economy, noted that the project will provide additional energy resources, foster economic development, and contribute to the establishment of new enterprises, thereby generating employment opportunities.

The El-Dabaa NPP, boasting a capacity of 4.8 gigawatts, is a collaborative effort between Egypt and Russia, guided by the Russian-Egyptian intergovernmental agreement of 2015.

It was designed to generate more than 10 percent of total electricity production in Egypt and provide a consistent baseload power source for an estimated 20 million people
