Egypt Asserts Sudanese Conflict Resolution as Internal Matter

Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, has stressed the need for the Sudanese conflict to be addressed as an internal affair, rejecting any external involvement that may hinder resolution efforts.

Shoukry made this remark during a meeting on Monday with Tom Perriello, the US special envoy to Sudan, who was in Cairo on a visit as part of his regional tour aimed at tackling the crisis.

A statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry disclosed that Shoukry briefed Perriello on Egypt’s engagements with Sudanese factions and its diplomatic efforts with global and regional stakeholders, including UN bodies to de-escalate the situation, secure a sustainable ceasefire, and safeguard Sudan’s unity.

It added that Egypt has advocated for urgent international humanitarian aid to meet the needs of the Sudanese populace.

Shoukry reiterated the inclusion of all active national entities on the Sudanese internal scene by any prospective political process and to act within the framework of respecting Sudanese sovereignty and territorial integrity, refraining from interfering in its internal affairs, and preventing it’s disintegration.

While speaking, Perriello acknowleged Egypt’s regional influence and its role in future Sudanese crisis resolutions.

Both parties agreed on sustaining consultation and coordination between their nations in the upcoming phase.
