Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi expressed his country’s commitment to enhancing collaboration and strategic partnerships with Japan across various domains. President Sisi made this announcement during a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Dubai on Friday.
The high-level talks, held on the sidelines of their participation in COP28, delved into fostering ties in key areas such as industry, transportation, energy, education, tourism, and culture. President Sisi conveyed Egypt’s deep respect for Japan’s rich history and culture, highlighting the profound admiration both at the official and popular levels.
Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Famy, in a statement following the meeting, disclosed that the leaders engaged in expanded discussions. Japanese Prime Minister Kishida welcomed the positive developments in bilateral relations, emphasizing the notable progress achieved by Egypt, particularly in its major national projects. He encouraged Japanese companies to intensify their operations in Egypt, capitalizing on the abundant and promising investment opportunities.
Kishida underscored the special significance Japan attaches to its relations with Cairo, emphasizing bilateral cooperation and political consultation. He acknowledged Egypt’s pivotal role in the Middle East, highlighting the need for continued collaboration.
Climate change and regional matters were central topics during the meeting. The leaders expressed shared concern about recent developments in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, condemning any targeting of civilians. Both leaders deplored the resumption of clashes in the region, resulting in civilian casualties.
President Sisi briefed Prime Minister Kishida on Egypt’s ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions, including initiatives to extend the humanitarian truce to a lasting ceasefire. The leaders emphasized the urgent necessity of delivering relief aid to the people of the Gaza Strip and ensuring full protection for civilians.
A joint commitment to opposing any forced displacement of Palestinians was affirmed, with both leaders stressing the importance of finding a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause. This solution, they emphasized, should be based on the two-state framework and comply with international standards to foster peaceful coexistence among all people in the region.
