Djibouti secures World Bank’s $5 Million to boost Economic Management

The World Bank has announced an infusion of an additional $5 million into Djibouti’s economic management and statistics development project. The initiative aims to bolster the capacity of the National Institute of Statistics of Djibouti in generating accurate data crucial for informed policy-making.

The funding, as revealed in a statement by the international financial institution, will facilitate the implementation of comprehensive censuses and surveys, which are pivotal for crafting effective economic and climate-related strategies.

Also, the project will prioritize the enhancement of environmental statistics and the provision of scholarships for statistical engineers, thereby strengthening the nation’s data-driven decision-making framework.

Execution of the project will be spearheaded by the Ministry of Finance and the National Institute of Statistics of Djibouti, with support from four technical departments.

Djibouti’s World Bank portfolio encompasses 22 projects, amounting to approximately $463 million in IDA financing and trust funds.

The projects span various sectors including education, health, social safety nets, energy, rural and urban development, public administration modernization, digital development, governance strengthening, infrastructure, and private sector development, with a particular emphasis on empowering women and youth.
