Disagreements Among Somaliland House of Elders Members Prompt Speaker to Adjourn Today’s Session on Recently Approved Electoral Law

In a session led by Speaker Suleiman Mohamud Adam, the House of Elders in Somaliland witnessed divergent views among its members regarding the recently approved electoral law, currently awaiting President Bihi’s signature. Speaker Suleiman opted to adjourn the session to address the differing perspectives.

Some members expressed a preference for the law’s return to the House of Elders, following disapproval of amendments by the House of Representatives, which subsequently submitted the legislation to the President for final endorsement.

Conversely, another faction asserted that the House of Elders had fulfilled its responsibility in approving the long-awaited electoral law, emphasizing against its return to prevent potential political turmoil and instability.

Despite the internal differences, the Parliament collectively endorsed the electoral law, advocating for the amalgamation of Presidential and political association elections scheduled for the year’s end.
