In a devastating incident, two planes collided midair above Nairobi National Park, resulting in the crash of a smaller aircraft within the park premises and claiming the lives of two individuals, according to authorities on Tuesday.
The larger plane involved was identified as a Dash 8 operated by Safarilink Aviation, carrying 44 people, including five crew members. The flight was en route to the coastal resort town of Diani when, shortly after takeoff from Wilson Airport, the crew reported a loud bang. Responding to this alarming development, the crew decided to abandon the original destination and return to Wilson Airport for further investigation, as reported by the airline.
In a statement released by Safarilink Aviation, all 39 passengers and the five crew members aboard the Diani-bound flight were confirmed to be safe. The decision to turn back was a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring the safety of everyone on board.
“The crew decided to immediately turn back to Nairobi-Wilson Airport for further inspection and assessment and landed safely,” the statement highlighted.
