Algeria Advocates for Enhanced African Presence in UN Security Council

Algeria has pledged to spearhead efforts to bolster African representation within the United Nations Security Council. The official pledge was made on Tuesday, coinciding with the kickoff of Algeria’s two-year term as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Algeria is at the forefront of an African initiative that proposes an increase in the continent’s representation within the Security Council, advocating for a raise in non-permanent seats from three to five.

This move aligns with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s visionary goal of empowering Africa’s presence in the UN Security Council.

Meanwhile, the streets of the Algerian capital witnessed the display of Sierra Leone’s flag, suggesting a potential visit by its president, Julius Maada Wonie Bio. Although the official announcement of the visit is yet to be made by the Algerian presidency.

Both Algeria and Sierra Leone have assumed their roles as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, emerging as key advocates for the African continent.

This development highlights a united effort to amplify Africa’s influence within the Security Council, pushing for a more equitable representation in the realm of international affairs.
