The Vice President of the Republic of Somaliland and Acting President, Mr. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, today attended the commemoration ceremony of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Somaliland Coast Guard Forces.
The event, which was held at the Coast Guard Headquarters, was also attended by senior commanders of the national armed forces and representatives from countries that are friends of Somaliland.
In a speech delivered at the event, the Vice President congratulated the Coast Guard personnel and their families, stating:
“It is a great honor for me to participate in today’s celebration of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Somaliland Coast Guard. On this occasion, I extend my congratulations and appreciation to the commanders, deputy commanders, officers, deputy officers, enlisted personnel of the Coast Guard, as well as their spouses and children. I pray that Allah grants us health and success this year and beyond.”
The Vice President also highlighted the importance of marine resources, calling on the people of Somaliland to take full advantage of the wealth in their seas:
“Globally, marine resources hold immense value. As pastoralism continues to decline, we must focus on utilizing fish and other marine resources.”
Finally, the Vice President affirmed the government’s commitment to developing and strengthening the capabilities of the Coast Guard Forces:
“As a government, we are fully committed to enhancing the capacity and professionalism of the Somaliland Coast Guard to reach international standards.”
