Somaliland Launches Livestock Fodder Book to Boost Productivity

Hargeisa, August 31, 2025 – The Minister of Livestock of Somaliland, Mr. Omer Shucayb Mohamed, today inaugurated a workshop at the Ambassador Hotel in Hargeisa focused on reviewing the newly published Livestock Fodder Book. The workshop aims to discuss cultivation, storage, and utilization of livestock fodder, a key resource for the country’s economy and food security.

The workshop brought together officials from the Ministry of Livestock, veterinarians, researchers, and representatives from partner organizations working with the ministry. Participants explored best practices for managing fodder efficiently, with the goal of increasing livestock productivity and reducing losses caused by improper handling and storage.

Several ministry officials and veterinarians highlighted the importance of the book for the participants, explaining how it serves as a practical guide for improving knowledge and practices related to fodder management. They also shared professional experiences and examples demonstrating how proper fodder use can enhance livestock health and output.

A senior representative from the World Food Bank (WFB) also spoke, emphasizing that the book is an essential tool to support livestock development and to strengthen the skills of farmers, technicians, and ministry staff.

Concluding the workshop, Minister Omer Shu’ayb Mohamed urged participants to take full advantage of the knowledge shared, applying the guidance and techniques in their daily work. He stressed that the book will serve as a key reference for planning and managing livestock fodder across Somaliland.

The workshop is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to enhance staff knowledge, improve livestock production, and optimize the use of Somaliland’s agricultural resources for sustainable economic growth.
