Somali region of Ethiopia inaugurates Car Assembly Plant capable of 10 cars per day
In a new era of regional industrial advancement, the Chief Administrator of the Somali Region of Ethiopia, Mustafe M. Omer, unveiled the doors to a state-of-the-art car assembly plant in Jigjiga city. Constructed at a substantial investment of 250 million Birr, the newly minted plant stands as a pioneering venture in the Somali region, boasting a production capacity of 10 cars per day.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday, Mr. Mustafe underscored the profound significance of such endeavors, not only in curbing the demand for foreign currency but also in ushering in a wave of employment opportunities for local residents.
He lauded the private investors for their pivotal role in propelling the region’s economic trajectory, noting the instrumental contribution of nearly 300 industries, ranging from small-scale enterprises to corporate giants, in fueling job creation over the past six years.
In a resolute affirmation of the government’s unwavering support for private enterprise, the regional administrator expressed sanguine optimism regarding the future trajectory of the plant.
It was revealed that the facility has already become a beacon of employment, with 100 individuals already gainfully employed.
Moreover, plans are in motion for expansive growth, promising a surge in employment opportunities within the region’s burgeoning industrial landscape.
