Somalia, India Signs new Cooperation Agreement in Security and Development Sectors

 

The Federal Government of Somalia and India have signed a deal that will see the two countries partner in several areas including security and development sectors as reported by the Somalia’s Interior Ministry.

The cooperation agreement was announced following a meeting between Somalia’s Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, Ahmed Fiqi, and a delegation from India led by Dr. Sureh Kumara, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Mogadishu.

Minister Fiqi and Joint Secretary Dr. Sureh Kumar also discussed ways of facilitating visa services for Somali citizens traveling to India for medical and educational purposes.

A statement from the Somalia Ministry of Interior reads that the discussions emphasized collaborative efforts between the two governments to streamline visa procedures and provide necessary support to Somalians seeking medical and educational opportunities in India.

The statement further adds that Minister Fiqi also advocated for an expanded visa service and proposed the establishment of a consulate in Somalia to facilitate visa applications for healthcare and educational purposes.
