Young Somali Achieves Milestone as Top Pilot for Ethiopian Airlines

Against the backdrop of the Somali Regional State in Ethiopia, Xamse Daahir has emerged as a beacon of inspiration, proving that individual potential transcends background. Fueled by determination and educational triumphs, the young Xamse faced an uncertain future in his early years but today becomes top pilot for Ethiopian Airline.

In 1996, a young boy was born in the Dhagaxbuur district, now a proud member of the Somali Regional State in Ethiopia. Xamse Daahir, part of a small business-oriented family in the region, faced an uncertain future during his early years. However, his determination and success in education set him on a remarkable journey.
Raised in a modest environment, Xamse overcame the odds and excelled academically. His educational journey began with a fervent pursuit of Quranic studies, and by the age of 12, he had completed the Quran. Later, he enrolled in the prestigious Xaaji Cali Xaydar School in Dhagax-buur, transitioning to Sheikh Muumin’s school.
Xamse’s passion for aviation surfaced during his school years. The local Ethiopian Airline’s tragic crash, involving an aircraft that had previously been part of their fleet, deeply affected Xamse. Undeterred, he ventured into the world of engineering, specializing in Hydraulic Engineering at Jigjiga University.
After completing his degree in 2019, Xamse played a crucial role in the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) project, contributing to the country’s largest hydropower initiative. His academic excellence earned him a unique opportunity to participate in a program that granted top students access to the GERD site.
Xamse’s journey took an unexpected turn when he seized a chance to become a pilot. His relentless pursuit of opportunities led him to secure a spot in Ethiopian Airlines’ educational initiative, where he underwent extensive training. Xamse’s commitment and dedication shone through as he earned his wings, making him one of the prominent pilots in Africa.
Returning to his hometown Dhagaxbuur, Xamse became a symbol of inspiration for the local youth. Despite achieving his dream of becoming a pilot, he remains rooted in his community, emphasizing the importance of education and determination.
On March 3, 2024, Xamse marked another milestone in his career by piloting a commercial flight to Dhagaxbuur. The achievement was a moment of triumph for Xamse and a source of pride for the entire community. However, it is worth noting that Xamse’s success did not come without challenges, as he faced skepticism and uncertainties along his journey.
