Algeria Sets to Host Iran’s Raeisi for Talks and GECF Summit

Algeria is gearing up to welcome Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi as he prepares to visit on Saturday to participate in the 7th Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Summit of Heads of State and Government. This visit marks the first official trip by an Iranian president to Algeria in almost 14 years.

According to a statement, President Raeisi’s visit to Algiers, taking place upon an invitation extended by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, is in line with his administration’s efforts to deepen ties with regional and international organizations and to expand relations.

The statement emphasized that Iran’s engagement in North Africa aligns with its objectives of expanding relations with countries across the region that share common interests and values.

The multifaceted visit is also considered to boost relations with countries in North Africa, especially Sudan, to mend its strained relations in recent years, and with Egypt, a country Iran has no diplomatic relations with since 1979.

On the first day, the president will participate in the Summit, where he will interact with fellow heads of state and dignitaries from participating countries, while day two is dedicated to discussions with President Tebboune, poised to yield the signing of several agreements.
