Somalia, Uganda Military Chiefs Held Talks to Strengthen Security Cooperation

Somaliaโ€™s Military Chief, Ibrahim Sheikh Muhuyaddin, engages in discussions with his Ugandan counterpart, Wilson Mbadi, aimed at enhancing security cooperation between their respective nations. Both officials express a strong commitment to implementing these measures.

According to Somaliaโ€™s state media, the Ugandan government pledges to increase its military support to the federal government troops of Somalia in the ongoing fight against Al-Shabaab, particularly in the southern and central regions of Somalia.

The two military leaders agree on the imperative of intensifying joint military operations against Al-Shabaab. This consensus comes as the federal government of Somalia initiates the second phase of anti-Al-Shabaab operations, bolstered by support from pro-government militia.

Uganda remains the primary contributor to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), which is anticipated to complete its withdrawal from Somalia by the year’s end.
