Somaliland bashes Ilhan Omar for Alleged Involvement in Stirring Conflict among Somalis
Ministry of Information, Culture and National Guidance of the Republic of Somaliland has thrown strong accusations against Ilhan Omar, a member of the US Congress, alleging her involvement in creating animosity and discord within the Somalia community. According to its official X platform (formerly twitter), the ministry alleged this is not the first instance where Omar has been accused of contributing to tensions among Somalis.
One notable incident cited is her alleged role in the conflict that unfolded in Las-anod. In December 2022, during a visit to Garowe, Omar purportedly leaked sensitive information to Somalia leaders regarding a meeting between the President of Somaliland and the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US Congress, of which she was a member at the time.
The Ministry of Information, Culture and National Guidance of the Republic of Somaliland’s allegations claim that Omar, during her visit to Garowe, was persistent in urging Somalia leaders to take proactive actions against Somaliland. The information leak allegedly occurred a month before the eruption of the Las-anod conflict, raising questions about her involvement and influence in the events that transpired.
Critics assert that Ilhan Omar played a significant role in fostering animosity and division among Somalis, citing her actions as a catalyst for the hostility that eventually led to the Las-anod conflict.
The accusations suggest that Omar’s involvement went beyond her role as a member of the US Congress and had repercussions in the delicate balance of relations within the Somali community.
Calls for accountability have been voiced, with individuals demanding a thorough investigation into Ilhan Omar’s alleged wrongdoings.
The severity of the accusations underscores the need for transparency and clarity on the events surrounding her actions in Garowe and their potential impact on regional stability.
No single comment has surfaced from the US Congressman but the allegations has been gaining tractions on the social spaces with many Somalians lashing back at the ministry.
