Egypt Condemns Drone Attack on US Forces at Jordan-Syrian Border

In response to the recent drone attack on US forces stationed at the Jordanian-Syrian border, Egypt has condemned the act that claimed the lives of three American soldiers and left several others injured on Sunday.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement expressing condemnation and emphasizing Cairo’s commitment to opposing any act that poses a threat to the security and stability of Jordan.

The statement expressed Egypt’s full solidarity with Jordan, and offered condolences to the United States and the families of the victims, while also wishing those injured in the attack a quick recovery.

According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the attack occurred at the Al-Tanf US military base, located near the Syria border in northeast Jordan resulting in the loss of three of its service members, and 28 others sustaining injuries.

In response to the incident, US President, Joe Biden, has attributed the assault to Iran-backed militants, vowing that the United States will respond accordingly.

Meanwhile, Iran has In a statement released on Monday, dismissed claims of its involvement in the attack on the US soldiers, saying it does not interfere in the decision-making processes of regional groups.

Iran Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani, asserted that the “resistance groups” in the West Asian region operate independently and do not take directives from Tehran.

It is the first time American military personnel have been killed by hostile fire in the Middle East since the start of Israel’s siege and war in the Gaza Strip, which has killed over 26,000 Palestinians – mostly women and children.
