Egypt Halts Mediation Efforts with Israel and Hamas After Hamas Leader’s Elimination

Following the elimination of Hamas’ deputy leader, Saleh al-Arouri, Egypt has informed Israel that it is suspending its role in mediating between Israel and Hamas. The move comes as a response to the targeted action against al-Arouri.

This event unfolded after what was characterized as a positive atmosphere in the indirect negotiations between the involved parties, where offers and responses were exchanged.

In light of this development, an Israeli delegation, which included the official responsible for captives and missing persons, abruptly cut short its visit to Egypt, concluding just one day after arriving in Cairo.

Speaking in an interview, a senior Hamas official stated that Tuesday’s elimination of al-Arouri has created an environment where dialogue on negotiations for an exchange deal and a ceasefire with Israel is no longer feasible.

There are indications that there is a desire to respond to the elimination in a similar manner, at the same time discussions are ongoing among all Palestinian Arab organizations to determine an appropriate collective response.

An Egyptian official emphasized the indispensable nature of the negotiation route to resolve the crisis in the Gaza Strip.

Expressing concern, the official warned that if Egypt were to discontinue its involvement in this matter, the crisis might escalate in a manner surpassing the estimates of all parties involved.
