Hamas Leader Arrives in Cairo for Ceasefire Talks and Prisoner Exchange

The Qatar-based leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, has arrived in Cairo to engage in discussions with Egyptian officials concerning the ongoing conflict between the group and Israel in Gaza, as well as potential negotiations for a prisoner exchange.

The visit follows a meeting in Doha with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

According to a source close to Hamas, Haniyeh will lead a “high-level” delegation to Egypt, where he is scheduled to meet with Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel and other officials.

The focus of the talks is expected to be on halting the aggression and hostilities, formulating an agreement for the release of prisoners, and addressing the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.

The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, emphasized that the discussions aim to prepare a framework for ending the conflict and alleviating the humanitarian situation in the region.

The leader of the Islamic Jihad group collaborating with Hamas in Gaza, Ziad Nakhaleh, is also anticipated to visit Cairo for talks early next week.
