In a solemn expression of grief, Somaliland has conveyed its condolences to the State of Kuwait for the demise of Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, who passed away at the age of 86 on Saturday following a period of illness.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Somaliland, in an official statement, mourns the loss of the esteemed leader, His Highness the Emir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, emphasizing the significance of his role within the Arab and Islamic nations.
Sheikh Nawaf assumed the position of Emir in September 2020, succeeding his brother, Sheikh Sabah, a statesman who had significantly influenced Kuwait’s foreign policy for over five decades during his decade-long rule.
Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah, aged 83, the de facto ruler since 2021, has been appointed as the successor to Sheikh Nawaf, continuing the legacy of leadership in Kuwait.
In response to the passing of Emir Sheikh Nawaf, Kuwait has declared 40 days of mourning, accompanied by a three-day closure of official departments. Leaders from around the world have expressed their condolences to Sheikh Nawaf’s successor, the Al Sabah family, and the people of Kuwait, acknowledging the significant role the late Emir played in shaping the nation’s history.
