UN agency for Palestinian refugees says humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza ‘cannot wait any longer’

The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees has reiterated the call for an emergency humanitarian ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip. The agency decried the latest bloodshed after the Israeli forces targeted a UN school, leading to the death of civilians including children…

The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees UNRWA had again stressed the need for a humanitarian ceasefire, adding they were receiving “horrifying images and footage of scores of people killed and injured” in the Israeli attack on its Al-Fakhoura school in Gaza.

Philippe Lazzarini said on X that “Receiving horrifying images & footage of scores of people killed and injured in another UNRWA school sheltering thousands of displaced in the north of the Gaza Strip. These attacks cannot become commonplace, they must stop. A humanitarian ceasefire cannot wait any longer.” He said

The UN official said dozens were reported killed including children.

The attack is the second one in less than 24 hours. He called for an end to the horror in the besieged enclave.

Earlier on Saturday, an Israeli airstrike killed and injured dozens of Palestinians in an attack on the UN-run learning center in the Jabalia refugee camp.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is yet to comment on the report of the attack but said it was expanding operations in Gaza, including in Jabalia, to target Hamas fighters.

So far, the health ministry says the death toll in Gaza has reached 12,300. More than 2,000 more are feared to be buried under rubble.
