President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has joined other members of the international community to congratulate and commend the government and people of Liberia following the successful conduct of the presidential run-off election.

Tinubu, who spoke through his media aide, Ajuri Ngelale, congratulated the President-elect of Liberia, Joseph Boakai.

The Nigerian leader called on the Liberian president-elect to unite the country and use the popular support he received through the ballot box to deliver good governance to the people of the country.

He further praised President George Weah for demonstrating uncommon leadership by conceding the election and averting any socio-political crisis in the country.

Tinubu stressed that President Weah’s great act of democratic sportsmanship is exemplary, particularly at this time in West Africa, when democracy is under attack by some actors who are bent on subverting the will of the people.

President George Weah conceded defeat on Friday to rival Joseph Boakai, a former vice president, in a tightly contested runoff election in the West African country.

Boakai won 50.89% of the vote with nearly 99.58% of polling stations counted, according to results from the Nov. 14 election that was announced by the Electoral Commission.

The President-elect has since vowed to form a government of inclusion that truly reflects the political, social and religious diversity of the people of Liberia.
