Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, Mo Sallah of Egypt, and Senegalese midfielder Sadio Mane top the list as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the nominees for the 2023 CAF Men’s African Player of the Year.
Other African football icons such as PSG’s Achraf Hakimi, Galatasaray’s Hakim Ziyech and Besiktas’s Vincent Aboubakar are nominated for the award.
Thirty African players will compete for the honour, while 20 have been shortlisted for the CAF Interclub Player of the Year.
In other categories, the CAF National Team of the Year, the Club of the Year and the CAF Young Player of the Year awards each have 10 nominees as announced by the continental football governing body.
This year’s award takes another dimension following the introduction of the CAF African Goalkeeper of the Year for men and women.
The awards ceremony is set for December 11 in Marrakech, Morocco.
According to CAF, the nominees for the women’s categories will be announced later.
Sadio Mane of Senegal and Asisat Oshoala of Nigeria won the men’s and women’s awards in 2022, respectively.
