Somaliland’s Horseed Political association Chairman insists not to endorse the combination of elections

The Chairman of Somaliland’s Horseed Political Association, Abdillahi Darawal, has voiced his reservations about the upcoming elections scheduled for the following year. During a meeting with members of the House of Representatives, he reiterated his dissatisfaction with the recently approved election combination.

Despite widespread support from other political associations and the House of Representatives, Darawal defended his decision, citing his deep loyalty to the country and his past commitment during the war against the former regime in Somalia. He accused his opponents of pursuing financial gains through public office positions.

Darawal alleged that opposition parties initially welcomed the political association elections following the Supreme Court’s announcement but changed their stance at the final stage, prioritizing their political agenda without considering the country’s best interests.

However, the House of Representatives passed an amendment to the election law last week, advocating for the combination of Presidential and political association elections next year. The law now awaits endorsement from the House of Elders and the President for formal assent.
