Somaliland’s Waddani Party Calls on Government to Address Clan Conflicts, Emphasizes Need for Security Measures

Somaliland’s Waddani party has officially attributed the escalation of clan conflicts in the Togdheer region to what they perceive as a lack of effective government intervention. The aftermath of these clashes has seen a loss of lives and a surge in injuries.

The party has vocally expressed its concern over the apparent indifference exhibited by high-ranking government officials, including President Bihi, the Minister of Interior, and the Chiefs of the national army. Waddani contends that this silence implies a tacit acceptance of the situation by the government.

Mohamed Farah Abdi, the Spokesperson of the Waddani party, who leveled these allegations against President Bihi’s administration, has stressed the urgency of implementing immediate measures to quell the ongoing conflict. He underscored that the nation of Somaliland can ill afford further hostilities and discord.

Furthermore, the Spokesperson remarked that since President Bihi assumed office, the country has experienced an unprecedented surge in conflicts. Allegedly, his leadership has been criticized for fueling discontent, leading individuals to resort to arms against each other.

Despite their critique of the government’s handling of the situation, the Waddani party has called upon all factions involved in the conflicts to de-escalate tensions and work towards restoring stability in the affected areas.
