Somaliland’s House of Representatives Engages in Deliberations on National Army Bill

In today’s session, the House of Representatives in Somaliland has convened to deliberate on the National Army Bill, a legislative endeavor that has been underway for the past four months. This initiative seeks to establish a comprehensive framework outlining the rights and duties of the nation’s army personnel.

During the session, Ahmed Yousuf Nour (Guruje), a member of the House of Representatives, elucidated the key provisions of the proposed bill. Notably, the bill stipulates that the tenure of the Chief of the National Armed Forces should be limited to a maximum of two terms, with each term spanning a duration of five years.

The legislator emphasized that the bill is designed to enhance the transparency of financial management within the armed forces, thereby mitigating the risks of corruption and fiscal mismanagement.

In expressing his optimism, he contended that the bill’s enactment would serve as an incentive for the younger generation to eagerly consider a future in the national army. However, the House has been granted an opportunity to review the bill thoroughly, with their impending decision being either to accept or reject it in the following days.
