Somaliland’s Technical Committee Responsible for MOU with Ethiopia Convenes Consultative Meeting with Opposition Parties
The technical committee assigned to finalize the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Somaliland and Ethiopia recently convened a consultative session with leaders of opposition parties.
The purpose of the committee’s engagement with opposition leaders was to facilitate information exchange and gather input regarding the ongoing negotiations between Somaliland and Ethiopia.
Acknowledging the committee’s initiative, opposition parties commended the outreach efforts aimed at soliciting valuable recommendations for the benefit of the nation. However, specific details regarding the MoU’s contents were not disclosed by either party.
On the first day of this year, leaders from Somaliland and Ethiopia signed an MoU in Addis Ababa, which grants Ethiopia access to the Red Sea and recognizes Somaliland. This agreement has drawn strong criticism from Somalia, which perceives it as a violation of its territorial integrity, urging the international community to reject it.
