Somalia’s Lower House Speaker Issues Warning to Absent Members of Parliament

Adam Mohamed Nour, widely recognized as Adam Madoobe, the Speaker of Somalia’s Lower House, has issued a stern warning to members of the legislative body who have been consistently absent from recent parliamentary sessions without valid justifications.

Speaker Madoobe has voiced deep concern regarding the recurring absence of lawmakers during each parliamentary gathering. He emphasized that such nonattendance, in the absence of compelling and substantial reasons, is deemed unacceptable, as it undermines the integrity of their legislative obligations.

In response to this pressing matter, Adam Madoobe has previously signaled the intention to implement new parliamentary bylaws designed to hold accountable those who demonstrate disregard for their national responsibilities within the legislative chamber.

Once these forthcoming bylaws are enacted, they will require a two-year suspension for any Member of Parliament who fails to attend sessions without a legitimate and verifiable excuse, as announced by the Speaker in July of this year
