Somalia President Says Military Operations Against Al-Shabab Will Continue Until Final Victory
Somalia’s President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has affirmed that military operations against al-Shabab will persist until the final victory is achieved. The President conveyed this determination in his recent address, following a series of town withdrawals by government forces subsequent to a fatal assault launched by al-Shabaab in Cowsweyne village on Saturday.
President Hassan Sheikh articulated that regardless of setbacks on any given battleground or the propagation of false information, the pursuit against al-Shabab will persist unswervingly. He underscored that the resolve to persevere remains unshaken, with an unwavering commitment to progress.
Acknowledging the valiant efforts of government troops who have effectively displaced al-Shabab fighters across extensive territories since the commencement of the offensive last year, the President also commended the contributions of both military personnel and local combatants who actively engaged in these operations.
President Hassan refuted al-Shabab’s assertion that 178 soldiers had perished in the Cowsweyne incident. Instead, he asserted that the majority of casualties were sustained by al-Shabab, with their deceased combatants being interred in mass graves.
Underscoring the diminishing strength and reduced numerical presence of al-Shabab, the President highlighted the increased experience and augmented size of the Somalian armed forces, in comparison to previous years. This, he emphasized, positions Somalia’s forces in a more favorable state to counter Alshabab effectively.
