Hargeisa – The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail (Cirro), today paid a working visit to the General Command Headquarters of the Somaliland National Army.
The purpose of the visit was to closely observe the ongoing operations and performance of the National Army. During his time at the headquarters, the President held a meeting with the Chief of the National Army, Major General Nimaan Yusuf Osman (Gaaxnuug), and senior military officers, receiving a comprehensive briefing on the overall status, needs, and future development plans of the armed forces. He affirmed that such meetings with the army will continue regularly.
President Cirro praised the vital role the National Army plays in safeguarding the country and protecting its people, emphasizing that the military is the main pillar of Somaliland’s sovereignty and statehood. He further stated that efforts would be intensified to modernize the army through enhanced training and advanced equipment to uphold public trust and fulfill constitutional duties.
Additionally, the President announced plans to begin constructing residential housing for military personnel — a key pledge made during his election campaign. He also confirmed that officers eligible for promotion will soon be elevated in rank.
To conclude the visit, President Cirro awarded certificates to several officers who had completed various trainings abroad.
This visit clearly reflects the President’s commitment to building a modern and capable national army that can effectively safeguard the security and sovereignty of the Republic of Somaliland.
