President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia personally welcomed the returning troops who were on training for five years in Eritrea. He said that their reassuring courage fills him with belief, along with every other Somali that Somalia’s liberation for a lasting peace is imminent.
Addressing the troops, President Hassan expressed his deep appreciation for their unwavering commitment and sacrifices. He said they have paid a price higher than that of ordinary soldiers and endured hardships and suffering during their training and the government will offer them a brief respite to reunite with their friends and families.
In a move to honor their service, the President announced that the troops would be granted one month of leave, allowing them to reconnect with their loved ones and providing them with a well-deserved break.
The government pledged to provide bonuses to support the soldiers’ travels within the city, recognising the sacrifices made by them to defend their nation. This gesture, according to the president, reaffirms the government’s commitment to the welfare of its troops and their vital role in preserving national interests.
