Scores of shops and business offices were affected in the fire incident that broke out in the popular Lagos Island, Nigeria’s commercial hub, on Sunday. No casualty has been reported in the inferno which has been brought under control…

Tens of shops and business offices in the commercial hub of Lagos, southwest Nigeria, were caught in a fire outbreak that occurred on Sunday.

The cause of the inferno was yet to be identified. The fire originated on the 1st floor and got to the 4th.

While commenting on the incident, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said no casualties have been reported, as he called on the people of the state to remain calm as first responders are working hard to bring the situation to a complete halt.

Different markets in Lagos have experienced varying degrees of fire outbreaks last year.

In 2022, a six-storey building on number 43, Martins Street, at the popular Balogun market in Lagos Island went up in flames, destroying foods whose monetary value could not be estimated.

The fire on the building comprising stores and warehouses for textile materials was said to have been caused by an electricity surge.

Experts have called for proper planning of major markets in Lagos and appealed to the state government to provide more fire outbreak prevention mechanisms in order to save lives and properties.
